CHAMP/GEAR UP Program Tutor/Mentors
Rowan University Creating Higher Aspirations and Motivation Project (C.H.A.M.P) is looking for college students to serve as mentors to Camden City middle and HS students. Housed in the Rowan University Camden Academic Building, the goal of the program is to provide participants with a solid foundation to enable them to successfully complete post-secondary programs leading to careers in fields which persons from minority and/or disadvantage backgrounds are underrepresented, such as engineering, computer science, medicine, and environmental science.
- Commit to working at least 5 hrs/wk with a six-month commitment. (May work up to 20 hrs/wk) Flexible work schedule to include after-school hours and some weekends.
2. Provide support and assistance to proteges to encourage college assistance.
3. Provide participants with homework assistance as needed.
4. Assist in the development of skills necessary for proteges to succeed both personally and academically.
5. Assist proteges in developing realistic career/academic goals and expectations.
6. Assist in planning of enrichment activities and workshops and accompany students on field trips when possible.
7. Provide resource information as well as document your experience working with the students.
8. Agree to undergo a criminal background check.
TUTORS/MENTORS must be...
a. Must be currently enrolled in a college or university with a satisfactory GPA.
b. Good role models.
c Able and willing to tutor students in various subject-matters.
d. Able to create and facilitate workshops that are both informative and interactive.
e. Flexible and at times work independently.
f. Committed and able to participate in Saturday activities.
